Beast (비스트, stylized as BEAST or B2ST) is a boy group from South Korea that consists of six members, under Cube Entertainment. The group was originally known as B2ST, an acronym for Boys to Search for Top. However, their name was changed to BEAST (Boys of the EAst Standing Tall) a few days before debut.
On October 14, the group’s first mini-album, Beast Is the B2ST, was released, selling over 20,000 copies in October 2009. It went onto sell another 40,000 copies overall.Cube Entertainment revealed that they had sold all the albums they printed in the first batch and were planning to produce 5,000 more.
The group’s second mini-album, Shock of the New Era, was scheduled for release on March 2, 2010. The album was released a day early after being leaked on Youtube. Despite the leak, the album climbed the Korean music charts and quickly sold 20,000 copies.
On March 25, 2010, Beast received their first number-one win on Mnet’s ‘M! Countdown’ with ‘Shock’. On April 14, 2010, the group released a self-made music video for their track ‘Take Care of My Girlfriend (Say No)’ as a gift to their fans.
The Shock of the New Era album sold over 100,000 copies and was certified into the Gold Disk category.
The group was awarded with the Bonsang Award at the 20th Seoul Music Awards on January 20, 2011.
Yoon DooJoon (born July 4, 1989), more commonly known as Doo Joon, is a South Korean pop singer, rapper and dancer. He is the leader of the Korean boy group Beast.
He was born in Seoul, South Korea on July 4, 1989. He was a trainee from JYP Entertainment. He was featured in the Mnet documentary Hot Blooded Men with 2AM and 2PM but was eliminated. He was then transferred to JYP Entertainment’s sister company, Cube Entertainment.
He currently attends at Kyung Hee Cyber University.
Before his debut with BEAST, he auditioned for High Kick Through the Roof and was offered a role in the sitcom but turned it down to focus on his music career. He became a member of reality-variety series Danbi, a segment part of MBC’s Sunday Sunday Night line-up.
It ended with the last broadcast on August 15, 2010.
Doo Joon was featured in Lee Gi Kwang’s music video for “Wipe the Tears” as a rapper along with Jun Hyung before they debuted as part of BEAST. He was also a rapper for Gavy NJ’s song “Sun Flower”.
When Girls’ Generation member Taeyeon left MBC Radio FM4U 91.9Mhz ‘Chin Chin Radio’ , he was chosen as the temporary DJ for two weeks together with solo singer IU.
Doo Joon was featured for G.NA’s album title song ‘I’ll Back Off So You Can Live Better’ music video along with the other Beast member, Jun Hyung.
Doojoon, Gi Kwang and IU appeared as special hosts on Music Core on August 21, 2010.
DooJoon was cast in MBC daily sitcoms ‘All My Love’ and ‘More Charming By The Day’.
On December 29, 2010, DooJoon was awarded with Rookie Comedy Award from the 2010 MBC Entertainment Awards for the cast in ‘All My Love’ and ‘More Charming By The Day’.
Jang HyunSeung (born September 3, 1989), more commonly known as Hyunseung, is a South Korean pop singer and dancer.
He attended to Anshan Information Industry High School.
Hyunseung was eliminated from the group Big Bang on the 9th episode of the YG Entertainment Big Bang MTV documentary.
He used to be a dancer for Star System Crew.
Yong JunHyung (born December 19, 1989), more commonly known as Poppin’ Dragon or Joker, is a South Korean pop singer, rapper, songwriter and dancer. He is a member of the Korean boy group Beast.
Jun Hyung was born in Seoul, South Korea on December 19, 1989. Jun Hyung’s real name was Yong Jae Soon but changed to Yong Jun Hyung when he was in the 6th grade. He was a member of the boyband “Xing” which also consisted of Kevin and Kibum (U-Kiss), Yume, Cheon Hyesung, and ZEN. He went by the name Poppin’ Dragon while promoting with Xing.
He attended at Anyang Art High School.
Jun Hyung was featured in Lee Gi Kwang’s music video “눈물을 닦고” (“Wiping the Tears”) as a rapper with Doo Joon. Along with fellow BEAST member Yo Seob, MC and comedian Lee Hyukjae, Moon Hee Jun (formerly of H.O.T.) and Kim Sook, they welcomed Japanese tourists for “Visit Seoul 2010” campaign.
Jun Hyung also featured in Hyuna’s solo debut single “Change”, K.Wills song “Present”, G.NA’s album title song ‘I’ll Back Off So You Can Live Better’ music video, Young Jee’s “Crazy, That’s What Love Is”, Navi’s “Go Again” and Wheesung’s “Heart Aching Story”.
In order to encourage the public participation in commemorating Seoul Summit Asia Bridge Contents (Representative Choi Jin) had announced that the G20 summit held in Seoul have created campaign song ‘Let’s Go’ composed by Shinsadong Tiger, Lim Sanghyuk, Eddie, and BEAST`s Yong Junhyung. Junhyung will also be rapping for the song.
He was also involved in the rap making and featuring for 4minute’s album “Hit Your Heart” where his composing skills were dutifully noted.
Yang YoSeob (born January 5, 1990) more commonly known as Yoseob, is a South Korean pop singer and dancer. He is a member of the Korean boy group Beast.
Yo Seob was born in Seoul, South Korea on January 5, 1990. Yo Seob was a former JYP Entertainment trainee. He moved agencies, to M Boat Entertainment (a former sister company of YG Entertainment) where he was trained for 5 years before transferring to Cube Entertainment where he became a member of Beast.
Yo Seob currently attends at University of East Broadcasting Arts.
He was a backup dancer for Lee Gi Kwang’s music video “Wiping the Tears” and “Dancing Shoes”.
On July 16, 2010, Yo Seob participated in the More Charming by the Day official soundtrack in promotion for the film with the song “Happy Birthday”.
On November 29, 2010 , Yoseob released a digital single together with Dalmatian`s Daniel, namely “First Snow and First Kiss”. They released a UCC series, “To Pick On Mr. Daniel” which even succeeded to rise up as a hot topic when selected as #1 amongst the weekly TOP 5 UCC’s by a sports newspaper.
Yoseob is currently a regular cast member on “100 Points Out of 100” which was originally known as “Oh My School” and replaced “Star Golden Bell”.
He also contributed to the soundtrack of “My Princess”, with the song “Cherish That Person”. The song was released on February 7, 2011.
YoSeob will be casting in his first musical as Ji Yong through ‘Kwang Hwa Moon Love Song’. The Musical will start performances from March 20th until April 10th.
He is now part of the cast of “Immortal Song 2”, but his agency announced his departure from the program because schedule conflicts.
Lee Gikwang (born March 30, 1990) also known as AJ, was a solo singer under Cube Entertainment, better known by his stage name as “Ace Junior” when he debuted. He released his first Mini Album “First Episode A New Hero” which features the works of the famous composer Brave Brothers. He is now a member of Beast.
“AJ” was trained under JYP Entertainment for four years before transferring to Cube Entertainment. He made his debut on April 2, 2009 on Mnet M!Countdown. On June 17, 2009, AJ opened for Lady Gaga’s Korean showcase.
AJ has now switched from a solo artist to a group member of Beast. He is now known as Gikwang, or Kikwang. The group debuted on October 16, 2009 on KBS Music Bank with their single “Bad Girl”.
He also has an acting role as Kang Sae Ho on MBC’s “High Kick Through the Roof” Gi Kwang was selected as MC for MBC’s Sunday Sunday Night segment Hot Brothers. Lee Gi Kwang was chosen as the new MC for the KBS show ‘Win Win’.
Gi Kwang is featured in K.Will’s music video for the song, Present. He was also chosen as the model for the ‘Ice Tea Tio’ from DongSuh Foods. Lee Gi Kwang will be featuring in Ahn Jinkyung’s title song ‘Love is Pathetic’ off of her second mini album ‘BE THE VOICE’ this will be his first project that he will be rapping in. Doojoon, Gi Kwang and IU appeared as special hosts on Music Core on August 21, 2010.
Gi Kwang was casted as the comical role in the drama ‘My Princess’ starring Song Seunghun and Kim Taehee. On December 29, 2010, Gi Kwang was awarded with Popularity Award from the 2010 MBC Entertainment Awards.
Ki Kwang and IU were selected to be new MCs of Inkigayo in replacement of CNBLUE’s Jung Yonghwa from 20th March. The pair will be paired with the existing MCs,2AM’s Jo Kwon and f(x)’s Sulli.
Son DongWoon (born June 6, 1991), more commonly known as Dong Woon, is a South Korean pop singer and dancer. He is a member of the Korean boy group Beast.
Dong Woon was born in Seoul, South Korea on June 6, 1991. Dong Woon was a trainee from JYP Entertainment for 2 years, and was the last member chosen to join BEAST. He is the maknae (youngest) of the group. Dong Woon is known for his Western look from the other members.
Dong Woon attended High School Hanyoung and currently attends Konkuk University majoring in image and film.
In December 2010, Dong Woon released a digital single album “Udon” together with Davichi’s Kang Min Kyung. After its release, the song quickly rose up to the top of the charts, bringing in immense popularity and it is expected to start another trend.
