After School is a South Korean girl group under the label of Pledis Entertainment. The group had their first performance alongside label mate Son Dam Bi in 2008 and their official debut occurred on January 2009 with the song “AH!”. The group became popular with the release of their hit single, “Because of You”, which attained #1 and a triple crown on SBS’s Inkigayo. After School went on to win various awards at the Billboard Japan Music Awards and the Seoul Music Awards.
Other hits by After School include “Diva”, “Bang!” and “Shampoo”. Three members of After School had formed a sub-group known as Orange Caramel with a different concept.
The group is currently preparing for their Japanese debut, and has collaborated with Namie Amuro for the song, “Make It Happen”.
The current band consists of Park Kahi, Kim Jung Ah, Lee Joo Yeon, Uee, Raina, Nana, Lizzy and E-Young. Soyoung has since graduated from the group in fall 2009 and Bekah has announced that she will be departing from the group in July 2011.
Park JiYoung (박지영) was born on December 25, 1980. She’s commonly known as Kahi or Gahee. Kahi is the leader, vocalist and rapper of the south korean girl group After School.
In 2000, Kahi was chosen as the main dancer for DJ Doc’s “Run to You”.
A choreographer in SM Entertainment gave her a chance to become a temporary dancer for BoA. SM approved of her dancing, and she was kept as full-time dancer. Her cooperation with BoA lasted more than 3 years. Besides BoA, she was also a famous backup dancer for Chae Yeon, Eun Ji Won, and many others. She was the dance teacher of Son Dam Bi.
Around 2006, she set her mind to debut as a dance-pop singer. She joined the Korean American girl group “S. Blush”, whose first digital single peaked at #2 at the Billboard Hot Dance Chart in May 2007. However, due to various reasons, the band disbanded in the end.
In late 2007, Kahi contacted some friends in the industry that she had known in her dancer years who are now the staff of Pledis. They planned for and produced the debut of the new group together. After years of work and selection of members, she debuted in January 2009 as the leader of After School.
The promotional campaign for Kahi’s solo debut started in mid-February. The mini-album was then released on February 14, 2011. The music video for Come Back, You Bad Person was on February 14th, 2011.
She also was part of the SBS’s show “Heroes”.
Kim JungAh (김정아) was born on August 2, 1983. She is the main vocalist of the korean girl group After School.
In 2000 she released an album titled “SZ 1 Album”.
In 2005 se debuted as a member of Kiss Five. They released a MV called “Show Time”.
In 2008 participated as a dancer in Son Dambi’s MV “Bad Boy”.
She officially debuted as part of the first generation of After School in 2009.
Jungah also released a single for SBS’s drama “Pasta” titled “You are Cute”.
Lee JooYeon (이주연) was born on March 19, 1987. She is part of the south korean girl group After School.
She debuted as a member of After School (1st generation) in 2009, but previously she made some appearances on MV’s and CF’s.
In 2006 she appeared in Tony Ahn’s MV “Yutzpracachia”. She also appeared in E.Bul’s “I Want to Buy It” and Taegoon’s “Betrayed” (2009).
Jooyeon also appeared in “G7 Invencible Youth” and Introducing Stars Friends (as Son Dambi’s friend).
She made a cameo in SBS’s “You’re Beautiful” and was part of KBS’s “Smile, Donghae”. She also made a film titled My Tutor Friend 2 (2007).
Kim YuJin (김유진) was born on April 9, 1988. She’s known as UEE or U-ie. She is a south korean singer and actress. Uee is the vocalist of the kpop group After School.
Uee was initially first slated to debut with a girl group called “Five Girls” (“Oh So Nyuh” in Korean) which included Wonder Girls’s Yubin, Secret’s leader Hyosung, former T-ara member and current actress Yang Jiwon, and G.NA, but the group disbanded right before their scheduled debut in 2007 due to its entertainment company’s financial troubles.
Uee joined After School in 2009 (as part of the 2nd generation).
In that year she was casted for MBC’s “Queen Seon Duk” and SBS’s “You’re Beautiful”. Uee also appeared in KBS’s (now I don’t know where will be aired) “Birdie Buddy” and “Ojak Brothers”. She also made a cameo in SBS’s “My Girlfriend Is A Gumiho”.
Uee was virtually married with Park JaeJungin the reality show “We Got Married”.
She appeared alongside 4minute’s Hyuna in Mighty Mout’s “Love Class”. She colaborated with 4minute’s Hyuna, BEG’s Gain and Kara’s Seungyeon in the project group 4Tomorrow.
She recently have released a solo single titled “Sok Sok Sok”.
Her father is Kim SungKap is the coach of South Korean baseball team, Heroes.
Oh HyeRin (오혜린) was born on July 7, 1989. She’s is the lead vocalist of the south korean girl group After School, and After School’s sub group Orange Caramel.
Raina debuted alongside fellow member Nana as part of the third generation of After School in November 2009, with the release of their single “Because Of You”.
She is also a lyricist, and wrote “이곳에 서서 (Standing Here), Not Yet” for Orange Caramel and “Love Love Love” for After School.
Recently she collaborated with Kan JongWook for the single “Even After a Day”.
Im JinAh (임진아) was born on September 14, 1991. She’s commonly known as Nana, and is vocalist and rapper of the south korean group After School, and After School’s sub group Orange Caramel.
Nana debuted alongside fellow member Raina as part of the third generation of After School in November 2009, with the release of their single “Because Of You”.
Prior to her debut as an After School member she participated as a contestant in the 2009 Asia Pacific Super Model Contest.
She appeared on Honey Dew’s MV “Like A Fool” and Eru’s “White Tears”.
Park SooYoung (박수영) was born on July 31, 1992. She is commonly knwon as Lizzy and is vocalist of the korean girl group After School, and After School’s sub group Orange Caramel.
She debuted in After School in 2010, as part of the called 4th generation.
Lizzy was casted in MBC’s sitcom “All My Love”, and she have released a song for the OST of the sitcom titled “Beautiful Girl”
She also appeared in Teen Top’s MV “Clap”.
Noh LeeYoung (노이영) was born on August 16, 1992. She is vocalist of the south korean girl group After School.
She debuted as part of After School (5th generation) on December 31, 2010 during MBC’s song festival.
E-Young play 7 instruments: piano, guitar, electric guitar, flute, drums, bass, violoncello.
She is also a composer.
- Yoo Soyoung (유소영)
She was born on March 29th, 1986. Soyoung was the vocalist. She left the group in 2009. Because of that Raina and Nana were added to the group.
- Rebecca Kim/ Bekah (레베카 김)
She was born on August 11th, 1989. Bekah was the vocalist and main rapper. She left the group in 2011 to follow her dreams of being a designer.
